These are some of the main areas of focus, where volunteers will be attached to work. However, there are many more fields where volunteers can work depending on the need from the ground.

Water and Sanitation

Most of the areas that volunteers will be attached they are semi-arid and these communities struggle each day to look for safe and adequate water for domestic use. Water scarcity most of the time go hand in hand with health problems related to water born diseases. These and many other related areas are the ones we need volunteers to give support and added insight.

Education

Close to two thirds of Kenya is semi arid and sparsely populated. Infrastructure is poorly developed in these regions, and in the process Education does not take priority in the lives of these communities. We hope volunteers would be able to encourage learning among the youth and adults alike.

Agri-Business

Most partners working in these regions are involved in some kind of food production, both for consumption and cash incomes. Since the ecosystem is so fragile here, those agri-business activities are more focused on sustaining the community as well as maintaining the balance. Business is always viewed as merchandising, but not growing crops for cash. We hope volunteers would be able to add value in this area.

Health                                                back to top

These facilities are very limited in this region, because government resources are not adequate. Many children die before their fifth birth day, a situation that need to be reversed. It is expected that volunteers would add value and possible come up with better ways of providing this essential service.

The communities

The Maasai and Turkana peoples are pastoralist. They both live in the Great Rift Valley , and depend predominately on their livestock. They are culturally proud communities and still hold onto their culture to date. There is a great deal to learn from these communities. This is fertile ground for anthropologist.

Conservation & Tourism

There is a lot of tourism potential in these regions. But before we loss our posterity we need support to understand how to exploit the potential without upsetting the ecological balance.

Hunger                                       back to top

Famine is an annual problem in these areas, since the rains are more unreliable. Being semi arid areas, whenever there is a small drought it results into unprecedented suffering and occasionally deaths.

Gender

If there is an area where the Kenyan community needs more growth, then it is in gender. Culturally, the female counter part is disadvantaged, more balance and equality is a big homework to bring about. Hence the need for gender sensitive volunteers to help teach what could be done as well as demonstrates what should be done. Are you the volunteer we are looking for?

Business

Increasing incomes in Kenya is a big priority of the Kenya government and communities a like. We need entrepreneurs who can help the local people on how to start and run small busineses
