Volunteer Challenge

Volunteer challenge is asking people with big hearts to donate their time and experience to make positive contribution in the lives of less fortunate people. By volunteering your time, we will provide you with lots of opportunities in this world to prove that you are a new star in the making with a big heart for the less fortunate. One of the ways is to come out of your comfort zone, and experience first hand how the less fortunate communities live day-by-day. Sit by their evening fires, cook, eat with them and listen to their side of the story. Thereafter, you may write these stories in your own words and language or even retell their stories to others. It is one thing to donate cash & equipment and wish the poverty will evaporate away, but it is quite another to actively participate in poverty alleviation.

Your coming to Kenya will motivate and open the eyes of these people to work even harder. This is why we are calling on all of you to come to Kenya and experience life in its true colours, and you will be a champion of these deprived people having gone through the challenges that face them each day. Make the contacts given herein and you shall be on your way to becoming an icon of the world.

Background to the Volunteer Challenge

The work of development in Africa has been going on for many years, most of the time through churches, NGOs CBOs and other partners. Much progress has been realized, but much more needs to be done, mainly because of the ever-increasing population and economic mismanagement. Much resource is still needed to help improve the situations in which the poorest of the poor live. In the past the emphasis has been on infrastructure installation and other physical facilities, without equivalent emphasis on transfer of technology and change of attitude of the local people. Perhaps the most important aspect of development of any community is the change of attitude and perspective to their way of life. The “will” to change unacceptable situations and circumstances, makes the difference in the quality of life. In view of the forgoing, this project endeavours to facilitate a high level of person-to-person interaction of the Kenyan community with that from the west as a way of addressing attitude change. These interactions will facilitate and enhance learning from one another on one-to-one, increase understanding as well as sensitise the west on the plight of the poorest of the poor in Kenya.
